Local Trasimeno wines pair best with local Trasimeno cooking. The grapes grow on the gently rolling hills in a microclimate in which grapevines and olive trees have flourished since the times of the Etruscans.
It is in this area that quality DOC (Controlled Designation of Origin) Colli del Trasimeno wines are made. Aside from such classics as Grechetto, Sangiovese and some international varietals, the Trasimeno Gamay – a red grape introduced to the area in 1600, a member of the Grenache variety family – is well worthy of note.
