L’Orto del mi’ nonno is a farm that grows fruit and vegetables in the valley of Montesperello outside of Magione. We grow the famous Trasimeno turnip directly from the seed, tomatoes for preservation in keeping with tradition, melon, watermelon, pumpkin, bell peppers and aubergine, a large variety of open-field and hot house crops on some 20 hectares, as well as 10 to 15 hectares of cereals.
Mrs Paola inherited an ancient farm from her parents. Her husband, Luigi, manages the processing, while her daughter, Chiara, goes to market to sell their produce four times a week, and her son is in charge of the store in Tavernelle. The farm uses 4.0 technology that allows them to reduce their use of water by 50% and eliminate the need for herbicides.
Direct sale produce
The farm has four direct-sale shops spread throughout the area, two of which provide produce directly to those restaurants which practice farm-to-table and locally sourced cuisine. The Montesperello shops
have also always been a point of reference for farmto-fork enthusiasts, both for local inhabitants.
